Reconnecting with Our Inner Child at Soft(Spaces)

Only three days after launching Creative Kin, we hosted our very first in-person workshop in collaboration with our friends at Soft(Spaces). Sip and Stroke was a 420-friendly sip-and-paint session held at the Soft(Spaces) clubhouse, and the goal? To help a room full of creative adults reconnect with their inner child—and each other.
One of the key pillars of Creative Kin—especially our Inspiration category—is about reflecting on what fuels us creatively, from today’s obsessions all the way back to childhood.

This event was geared towards people 30 and over…and that was intentional. As we get deeper into adulting, opportunities for uninhibited play get replaced with the classic trio: the grind, the mundane, and existential dread. So we created a space where thirty-somethings could channel their younger selves… with paintbrushes, a little gardening, and great conversation.
Our role at the event was to ease everyone into that play mindset. We kicked things off with a wildcard prompt, guiding the room through a round of collaborative storytelling. One sentence at a time. The result? A dream day that started with waking up to nature and ended with a rich actor watching their own movie in bed.

Then we broke attendees into small pods of three and handed them prompts from our In Conversation category. It was a chance to deepen the room’s connections through some upgraded get-to-know-you questions, before diving into parallel play.
Finally, we had each person reflect on creative activities that brought them joy as kids. From drawing comic books to mixing “mystery soups” in the backyard, the responses were chaotic in the best way.
With everyone’s childhood joy freshly top of mind and scribbled down as a keepsake, we shifted into painting mode. What followed was the most freeform, interpretive paint session we’ve seen, aka exactly the kind of structured chaos Tochi at Soft(Spaces) was born to facilitate.
Bringing Creative Kin into real-life community spaces is one of our biggest priorities, and honestly, some exposure therapy for beating social anxiety. Especially since real people were our secret sauce while building the deck. Talking to creatives, testing in live sessions, and co-creating with our community made Creative Kin what it is: a conversational card game designed by creatives, for creatives.

And this workshop? Just the first of many. Check out our recap here.
